Where am I again?

Along with new weapons for the scout in the forth coming pack comes two new maps. These maps are now honoured meaning that valve and TF2 developers endorse them as “official maps” and will be added to many server listings. There are two new maps, a CP that is a community favourite and a new styled Arena

ARENA_WATCHTOWER is one of the newest maps realised by valve. It is unique in the aspect that there will be a lot more vertical attack opportunities rather then you standard run and shoot tactics. This will force players to be agile in their attacks while leaving an open field for Soldiers and Snipers. Although released with the scout pack it will probably be one of the more challenging arena maps for scouts due to its rather large open areas, but don’t let this deter you. Maps endorsed by valve are usually very well balanced and have something that every class can exploit. Being a map where agility is key Scouts will be a good favourite for wiping out team strength modifiers like medics and pesky snipers who will be plentiful. This map is also styled much like lumberyard and is a nice change to the usual desert scenery.

CP_JUNCTION the second map that has been endorsed by valve is an old community favourite. A tightly nit CP map that is great for traps and surprises will challenge most players. The tight areas are vastly different to what is regular in most other maps that are quite open. It is styled much like cp_gravelpit as you must capture the first 2 control points before moving onto the final capture points. It will force teams to work together and medic’s ubers and demo’s pipe bombs will be invaluable in making that final push for each point. This map needs little explaining as it is already in community at large. This update has finally made it official.

So it’ll be a good release community wise and an interesting addition to the map lineups.

Oh you just got owned

Throwing out the Jigsaw

So after a bit of a break I’ve picked up TF2 again, must say having a break has made me appreciate the game just that little bit more again. And to say the least I’m glad I haven’t lost my touch. Scout Tip: Never stop moving for ANYTHING. Anti-Scout tip: Watch you’re back even if you’ve just spawned, and just because they’ve run away don’t mean they won’t be back.

So cruised the net for my top scout picture which I found in my files anyway but stumbled upon another birds eye map. At this stage there’s only the one and yes it is 2fort.
2fort – Birdseye

Maps are great, let you really put in perspective, not just game play wise but also IRL (in real life). Always found them relatively easy to read and yeah as I said good perspective.

Time for some music. Mate was cruising the MySpace (which I live in fear of) and found some interesting music. The mixers name is Sabrepulse and he remixes old 8 bit soundtracks. So the likes of your Pokémon, Mario … Nintendo (game boy specifically (usually)). It’s really something for the ears. Try YouTube as well ‘cause there are a lot of fans who post his stuff online.

Finally for any scout fans out there I’m lookin’ for a bit of a challenge so if you fancy yourself a good scout either comment me your Steam ID or add whit3_crow. I’d love to learn where my faults are =D

Scoutdom is Imminent

So in anticipation for the scout pack (excited =D) I’ve gone dinking around YouTube, fan sites and the official TF2 blog in anticipation. And although any interests in the scout pack have been met by disappointment I have found plenty of interesting little bits and pieces.

I didn’t know about this and it’s quite old but valve did publish what look like heat maps in one of their statistical forum entries. The heat maps are actually player death zones with the “warmer” the colour the more deaths that have occurred in that area.  The maps are a bit of a challenge to read but if you look for the initial spawn point the rest should come more easily. 2fort (probably the most iconic map) is a really distinctive map and a really good example:

Obviously the bottle necks from the moat to the foyer and the foyer to the courtyard show high amounts of death. The middle of the bridge also appears that slightly bit safer than the alternative entrances. What is rather interesting is the hottest parts of the map contributed to the snipers. It seems that for the assassins they portray their whereabouts are well known. Not quiet as polite and efficient as they would have us believe.

Included with these maps are statistics ranging from weapons to classes and everything that revolves around these classes such as crit rates and accuracy.

So get on (if you take yourself that little bit too seriously) and plan your tactics and moves perhaps with these maps and charts in mind, might give you that little edge you need over your opponents.
(Scouts Rule! And are so underplayed (for now … >.>))
